12.11.2009 - Nimbus Water Systems First To Earn CarbonNeutral® Certifications

In December 2009, Nimbus Water Systems became the first U.S. water treatment equipment company to be awarded certification as a CarbonNeutral® company. In addition, the Nimbus WaterMaker Five reverse osmosis system achieved CarbonNeutral® product certification.

"All of us at Nimbus are very proud of our new CarbonNeutral® certifications. We have been changing our corporate culture and retooling our product line in an effort to be more environmentally friendly. Getting an independent assessment and certification for our efforts in reducing our carbon footprint has been an important part of the process," remarked Anthony Capone, President of Nimbus Water Systems.

To earn these certifications, Nimbus completed a program laid out by the CarbonNeutral Protocol, an industry leading proprietary standard developed by The CarbonNeutral Company, as an effective framework for organizations taking voluntary action on climate change. The process involved an independent third party performing a rigorous assessment of the CO2 emissions associated with Nimbus' energy consumption, transport of raw materials, business travel, manufacturing waste disposal and employee commuting. Following the measurement of the CO2 emissions, they were then reduced to net zero through a combination of internal reductions and external reductions, in the form of high quality, robust and permanent carbon offsets. The entire process was carried out by The CarbonNeutral Company (www.carbonneutral.com), a world leading carbon management and carbon offset business.

Nimbus chose two U.S. projects for carbon offset investment: a conservation-based forest management project in the Big River/Salmon Creek Forests in Northern California, verified to Climate Action Reserve - Forestry Protocol; and a methane capture project at the McKinney Landfill near Dallas, Texas, verified by the Climate Action Reserve -Landfill Gas Protocol.

Mark LaCroix, Executive Vice President, Business Development said, "We would like to congratulate Nimbus on the commitment that it has taken in measuring and reducing CO2 emissions to net zero. By taking responsibility for company and product emissions Nimbus is demonstrating clear environmental leadership to its customers."

3.31.2010 - Update on work in Haiti

Water continues to be a problem for quake damaged areas in Haiti. These images are from a camp in Cotes de Fer where a watering station was set up by people from Life Giving Force. The system deployed here is a solar-powered RO system donated by Nimbus Water Systems. In the first image you can just see the solar blanket on the ground that is providing power for the system.

1.21.2010 - Nimbus Teams Up for Aid to Haiti

Nimbus Water Systems has partnered with Shift Power Solutions, GenPro Energy Solutions and GenPro Power Services to help bring much needed drinking water purification systems to Haiti. This effort is on behalf of LifeGivingForce and The Global Orphan Project. Read more in this excerpt from an email post to The San Francisco Chronicle, dated January 21, 2010.

"The water filtration system is a work of genius and innovation. It is designed for disaster relief and to be used off-grid with its own renewable energy system. The system can turn dirty non-potable water into clean water and can produce 18,000+ gallons of fresh drinking water per day which in turn can provide the minimum drinking needs of 30,000+ people. The system contains no hazmat (batteries are biodegradable) components and includes a chemical injector for additional sanitizing and protection (if needed). The system can operate sun-free for 5+ days continuously and can be operated with a generator if needed.

We are also sending a briefcase sized portable purification unit which are housed in suitcases on rollers and can filter upwards of 800 gallons of water per day. The portable units weigh - 50 pounds and measure 10 cubic feet.

The effort is being spearheaded by LifeGivingForce whose mission is to save orphans lives through sustainable models incorporating renewable technologies. They directly support the non-profit called C3 Missions who have cared for over 2300 orphans in three orphanages throughout Haiti for over 6 years now. C3 Missions International, Inc. ("C3") catalyzes care for orphaned and abandoned children living in extreme poverty. C3 operates and facilitates The Global Orphan Project."
